As World Cerebral Palsy Day approaches October 6, Suburban Adult Services Inc. (SASI) is shining a spotlight on one of its own team members, Donte Lindsay, whose work as an Advocate Support Specialist demonstrates the importance of inclusion, opportunity, and recognizing people’s strengths.
Cerebral palsy, commonly known as CP, is a neurological condition that affects movement and muscle coordination. However, CP exists on a spectrum, and each person’s experience is unique. For Donte, cerebral palsy is only one part of who he is.
As an Advocate Support Specialist at SASI, Donte uses his lived experience, compassion, and dedication to support others. In his role, he helps educate people about disabilities, navigate services and opportunities while serving as a voice for inclusion and empowerment.
“Working at SASI, advocating for others with developmental disabilities has been my dream job,” Lindsay said. “I love being able to help people and make a difference.”
Donte’s journey challenges common misconceptions about cerebral palsy and highlights the many contributions people with disabilities make every day in workplaces and communities across the country. John Bowles, Chief Quality Officer at SASI expects the same work ethic of Donte as any of his other direct reports.
“Donte brings valuable insight, professionalism, and passion to our team,” Bowles said. “His work reminds us that disability does not define a person’s talent, potential, or ability to make an impact.”
As part of Cerebral Palsy Awareness efforts, SASI hopes Donte’s story will encourage greater understanding of the wide spectrum of experiences within the CP community.
“People often have assumptions about cerebral palsy,” Lindsay said. “I want others to know that everyone with CP is different. We all have goals, dreams, and abilities.”
By sharing Donte’s story, SASI aims to promote awareness, foster inclusion, and celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities both in the workplace and throughout the community.
