Funds many services for individuals with developmental disabilities in New York State, organized by the district office, Developmental Disabilities Services Offices (DDSO). Most DDSOs publish a directory of family services, which is a valuable resource.

DDAWNY – www.ddawny.org

The Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York (DDAWNY) is a collaborative group of member voluntary agencies that provide services to people with developmental disabilities. While honoring individual agency missions, it is the intent of the Alliance to assist agencies to develop relationships, promote unified strategies and share risks for the mutual gain with and for the benefit of people with developmental disabilities.

Parent Network of WNY is a community resource for families of individuals with special needs and for professionals who work with these families. Parent Network’s goal is to empower families to successfully advocate for children and young adults with special needs and to see that they receive the care and education they need by offering workshops, conferences, information, and referral services and resources.

Information and referral and assistance centers where parents of children from birth to age five and professionals who work with them can call to obtain information.

Center for Benefits and Services (CBS) www.cssny.org/programs/entry/center-for-benefits-and-services

Provides information and assistance for families and individuals seeking help accessing or maintaining public benefit programs.

Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (Acces-VR) – www.acces.nysed.gov

Offers access to a full range of employment and independent living resources for people with disabilities.

Independent Living Centers (ILCs) – www.acces.nysed.gov

Government-sponsored advocacy and information agencies that assist people with disabilities live integrated and self-directed lives.

National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY) – www.nichcy.org

Offers information on specific disabilities and lists state by state resources, important numbers, and contacts. 

New York’s Open Data Portal 

New York’s Open Data Portal is a new website that brings local, state, and federal data into one place. This website features economic development, health, recreation, public service information, and now also features a comprehensive listing of OPWDD’s Home and Community Based Service Providers. This information can be found at https://data.ny.gov and is a great resource for service coordinators as well as individuals and families who are receiving and/or seeking services.
