WGRZ-TV: Long-lost siblings reunite at group home in Derby
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A heartwarming story of family and resilience is unfolding at a local group home in Derby. Staff at Suburban Adult Services Inc. (SASI) recently discovered that two residents, Theodore “Teddy” Clark, 83, and Cynthia “Cindy” Clark, 74, are long-lost siblings.
Cindy Clark explained she was happy when she found out about her brother.
SASI explained that Teddy and Cindy were separated for decades after Teddy was placed in a state institution as a child.
They claim neither knew the other existed — until this past August, when Teddy moved into the same group home as Cindy.
Staff noticed striking similarities between the two and confirmed their relationship through family records.
Now, for the first time in their lives, the siblings are living under the same roof. They are sharing meals, decorating for the holidays, and building the bond they never had.
“This reunion shows the power of community-based care and the dedicated staff who make moments like this possible,” said representatives from SASI.
Stacy Erickson has been working with SASI for decades.
She said, “They get to live out their senior years together and they get to have each other. And that’s, you know, that kind of warms us, you know. Even though they might not 100% understand, we understand and it warms us that they are together.”
Staff at SASI said this story has touched the hearts of the local community, highlighting the work being done at SASI and the importance of creating supportive environments for seniors with developmental disabilities.
