When the right support meets the right moment, something truly life-changing can happen.
Meet Walter, a Buffalo native who reached out to SASI in search of something many of us take for granted… a place to call home. After experiencing homelessness for more than a year, Walter was facing an increasingly difficult and uncertain future.
Through coordinated supports and timely intervention, he was approved for an emergency transition stipend that helped pull him out of an extremely challenging and vulnerable situation. The stipend covered most of his security deposit and provided $3,000 to furnish his new apartment, turning an empty space into a safe, livable home and marking the beginning of a new chapter.
With continued supports, including a rental subsidy, SASI’s housing subsidy program will provide ongoing monthly check-ins to ensure Walter remains safely housed in a supportive apartment he can call his own.
