sasi has purchased a new 2017 Ford Transit van from West Herr Ford to be used within the organization’s Community Pre-Vocation program. The cost of the vehicle was offset by a recent $15,000 grant from the James H. Cummings Foundation of Buffalo, as well as a donation from West Herr. The vehicle will transport program participants to volunteer and employment opportunities throughout Western NY.
“The need for transportation is constant,” said Camille Putnam, Vice President of Program Services. “We can’t provide inclusive opportunities if we’re not out in the community. We are so grateful to the James Cummings Foundation and West Herr for their generosity to sasi and the individuals we support.”
sasi’s Community Pre-Vocation (CPV) program provides individuals with developmental and physical disabilities inclusive experiences within the community. Many program participants volunteer at local charities including Meals on Wheels, FoodBank of WNY, Ronald McDonald House, Goodwill and several other nonprofit organizations.
The program also provides employment opportunities at area corporations. Individuals work side-by-side with company employees, earning a paycheck for the work they perform.
“This van will provide more opportunities for the individuals in our CPV program and allow them to gain more experiences in our local communities,” said Putnam. “These types of experiences are invaluable, and we couldn’t be more appreciative.”
