This February, sasi received a grant in the amount of $4,140 from the Niagara Frontier Auto Dealers Association’s (NFADA) Charitable Foundation
, which will facilitate professional storytelling sessions for numerous individuals who attend sasi’s Day Habilitation centers.
The sessions will be provided through StoriesGalorious
, a team specializing in storytelling for individuals who have intellectual, behavioral or emotional disabilities. StoriesGalorious is composed of professionals with PhDs in educational psychology, special education certifications and licenses in social work.
Storytelling fosters language development, encourages listening, and strengthens social skills, and will provide a unique source of learning and enjoyment to individuals served by sasi.
A check in the amount of the grant award was formally presented to sasi’s Vice President of Program Services Camille Putnam at the NFADA’s Annual Buffalo Auto Show and Charity Preview Gala on Wednesday, February 7. The primary goal of the gala is to generate revenue for grant awards to organizations serving Western New York families. The checks presented at the 2018 gala brought NFADA’s Charitable Foundation’s contributions to a total of $1.3 million since its inception in 1999.
