Several sasi IRAs have been the lucky recipients of custom-made, accessible picnic tables, all thanks to local Boy Scout Dylan Tomczyk of Troop 599 in East Aurora.
Tomczak custom built the picnic tables and donated them to sasi houses as part of his Eagle Scout project. The tables were designed with spaces in the center for wheelchairs, and heavily sanded with rounded edges and corners to prevent individuals from getting slivers.
Dylan, a family friend of sasi Residential Manager Karen Rechin, had been wanting to create accessible picnic tables for his Eagle Scout project, but wasn’t sure how to go about making them or where to donate them. After a conversation between the two families on a Caribbean cruise in March of 2018, an idea was born.
Dylan and his fellow scouts solicited for donations to fund the project, then custom built the tables, and finally, delivered the tables to sasi IRAs – which were selected based on need. The homes that received the tables include Adare, Galway, Kerry and Herr Road.
Please join us in thanking Dylan for his kindness, generosity and hard work on this project, and congratulating him on the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout!
