Direct Support Staff and leaders from sasi gathered at the Millennium Hotel Buffalo on Tuesday, January 8 for DDAWNY’s Annual Legislative Breakfast.
The breakfast, hosted by the DDAWNY Family Committee, offers a chance for DSPs to talk face-to-face with elected officials about the need for an increased living wage and how it impacts their households.
Direct Care Professionals from sasi, which included Kim, Ericka, Mary, Joe and Greg, along with President and CEO Tony Annunziato and Executive Vice President of Quality and Community Services Barb Lamoreaux attended the event.
Each sasi staff member sat down to breakfast at tables with representatives from their districts. The event also included a featured panel of DSP staff who shared their own individual stories.
The annual breakfast is a continuation of the #bfair2directcare coalition – a call to action to remind state leaders that the nearly 100,000 DSPs who work for not-for-profit agencies do this work on behalf of the state.
Please continue to advocate for this cause by connecting through social media, attending events across the state, or personally contacting your NYS Senator and Assembly member and urging them to increase the living wage.
